Today’s aging population is unlike that of any other before its time. Increased longevity, an interest in continued personal growth and career reinvention are changing the old concept of retirement. Some older adults find themselves re-entering the work force to cover rising housing costs and other expenses to supplement a fixed income, while others take pleasure in continuing their education, which includes an interest in the latest technological advancements. A need exists to educate these adults on the latest technological advancements; however there are few viable opportunities available to them.
PNY is challenging high school seniors who attend public high schools and are U.S. residents to conceive and perform a project that will enhance the lives and meet the needs of seniors within their community using computer technology. This intergenerational experience provides students a venue to connect learning, life and work while providing a service to their community. The reward for this involvement in addition to helping others will be the opportunity to win scholarship money for continuing their education.
